“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” – Isaiah 26:3

The world is weighing heavily on my shoulders. For some, current situations are only a matter of inconvenience. For many others, it’s so much more. My heart grieves for the injustice and disunity. I’m desperately torn between listening and learning, engaging and keeping my eyes and heart open. My heart is broken understanding we are so far from where we want to be and there’s so much work to be done. I’m exhausted knowing it takes time, dedication, and commitment for centuries-old walls to begin to crack.

This worried churning of my mind stirs up anxiety and uncertainty. It’s an indicator that I’m trusting in myself. My misplaced trust in myself sets everyone up for failure.

This entire burden is not mine to carry.

I can worry about the world, or I can trust that He holds the world in His hands and has given me a specific job to do.

Peace comes from knowing who to trust. Even with my best intentions, my help is only a drop in the bucket to what is needed. This doesn’t mean that I sit idly by and do nothing, only that I’m not to be trusted with the entire burden of the world.

My love for God propels me to do what I can, and trust that God’s love is big enough for the whole world. He’s writing a story bigger than we can see or imagine. We get to be a small part of what He’s doing.

When you feel overwhelmed by the weight of the world, fix your mind on Him. He will guide you to your next step, and can be trusted with the rest. We have peace because of who He is, not because of our circumstances.

Where are your thoughts fixed? Are they caught up in the darkness of the days, fueled by every new report? What step will you take to fix your thoughts on Him? What is He asking YOU to do as part of this story He’s writing?
